July 8 brought 21.4 km with good skiing conditions and the warmest weather in many days. -15°C in the morning and -9°C in the evening. They met the other Icelandic group crossing the icecap from west to east at around 10 am. There was a celebratory mood with laughter and fun. Icelandic and Greenlandic flags were waved and our group brought them After Eight chocolate thins and Jameson whiskey. Photos were taken and everyone joined in a circle for a circle dance. A lot of happiness in the air. In an hour it was time to say goodbye after an adventurous meeting.
They are now on the glacier’s high plateau and from now on it’s “downhill” although the steepness is barely recognizable until they come closer to the edge of the glacier.
