Itinerary
Day 1 : Keflavik Airport - Kulusuk
We’ll be flying to Kulusuk on a small aircraft that seats between 35 to 65 people, and the journey will last about 1 hour and 45 minutes. We’ll touch down in Kulusuk around 18:15 local time, where a friendly local will drive our bags to the village. Then, we’ll embark on a nice 40-minute walk to our cozy accommodation in the village.
Kulusuk is a stunning island, surrounded by breathtaking views of other islands and majestic mountain peaks. It’s a charming little community with around 250 residents, many of whom are skilled hunters and fishermen. We’ll enjoy dinner and spend the night in a hut-style accommodation in a traditional local house.
Day 2 : Discovery of Kulusuk Island
Rise and shine for an exciting morning adventure as we set off to explore the stunning landscape of Kulusuk Island! Get ready to hike up to a hill that offers breathtaking views to the West, where you'll be greeted by a spectacular sight of icebergs and drift ice slowly dancing on the ocean. We'll take a moment to soak in the lush green hues of a mountain lake before making our way to the coast. There, we'll marvel at the stunning cliffs and unique rock formations that make this shore so captivating.
6 to 7 hours walk. Night in the same house as the night before.
Day 3 : Kuummiit
Set off for an exciting morning boat transfer, taking around 1 hour, to the breathtaking village of Kuummiit, the northernmost gem in the Ammassalik region! Nestled at the base of towering, majestic granite mountains, Kuummiit offers an absolutely stunning backdrop. Once we settle into our cozy hut-style accommodation, we’re ready to explore!
First we go on an afternoon stroll through the village and along the shimmering shore. On a charming little peninsula, we might just bump into some local boys enthusiastically fishing for Arctic Char with their rods. The views are simply unbeatable, with the fjord stretching out before us, framed by those incredible alpine peaks that surround us. We’ll wrap up this day by spending the night in a local house.
Day 4 : Mount Qeqqit Qaqqartivaat
Get ready for an adventure as we tackle the stunning Qeqqit Qaqqartivaat, also known as the Kuummiit mountain! Standing proud at 1050 meters (3,500 feet), this majestic peak is our destination for the day. We’ll kick off our ascent by scaling the ridge right above the village, where we’re greeted by a spectacular view of what the locals affectionately refer to as Dunu or Tunu. This enchanting little fjord, nestled among towering mountains, is a sight to behold!
Next, we’ll head left to a second ridge that leads us right to the edge of a breathtaking hanging valley. Just a short climb of 200 more meters (660 feet), and we’ll reach the summit! The panorama from the top is absolutely beautiful. Picture this: mountains, glaciers, fjords, and valleys stretching endlessly before us—truly a feast for the eyes!
6 to 7 hours walk. Ascent 1050 m (3,500 ft). Night in the same house as the night before.
Day 5 : Kuummiit – Tiniteqilaaq and the rocky ridge above
We set sail from Kuummiit to Tiniteqilaaq in the morning through the stunning Ikaasatsivaq strait! The towering granite peaks on either side reach majestically towards the sky, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop. Upon our arrival in Tiniteqilaaq, we are greeted by the breathtaking edge of the Sermilik Icefjord. This charming little village, known as Tinit, sits right at the foot of the magnificent fjord, which boasts one of the most dynamic glacier systems on the planet—moving over 30 meters each day and constantly shedding icebergs into the ocean!
Once we've settled in, our adventure continues with an exciting climb up a broad ridge to a stunning viewpoint standing at 420 meters high (1380 feet). The panorama we encounter is simply mesmerizing! To the East, we find pyramid-shaped mountains and a seemingly endless array of rugged ridges and peaks; to the West, the expansive Greenland Ice Cap spreads out before us.

As we hike, we’re greeted by lovely little lakes—first one, then a second and a third—until we reach the highest point at about 350 meters (1150 feet)! Once there, we continue our adventure alongside several much larger lakes that lead us straight to the breathtaking Tasilaq fjord. The scenery is stunning!

We’ll navigate a steep slope that leads us to the lower summit, and oh, the view is simply breathtaking! Then, we’ll press on to the higher summit, where even more stunning vistas of mountains, glaciers, and icebergs await us. After soaking in the incredible sights, we'll descend into a serene valley on the north side.
Winding alongside a sparkling lake, we’ll make our way to Flower Valley, where we have the chance to pass by the local cemetery and delve into the fascinating customs and rich life of the Inuit people.
Return to Tasilaq and night in the same guesthouse. 5-6 hours walk. Ascent 650 m.
