You’ve probably seen the news about US interest in Greenland and tensions between US, Denmark and EU. If you’re planning a trip to Greenland, you’re probably wondering what that means.
While the political tensions and the media fuss around it have stirred up some unrest, life in Greenland mostly remains the same.
What this means for your trip: If you’ve been planning a hiking tour, a trek or a ski tour in Greenland, there is no reason to delay or cancel. The region is safe, accessible, and as extraordinary as ever. If anything, now is a particularly good time to go – to see the place for yourself, support the local economy, and experience one of the least-visited places on earth before it becomes more well-known.
Tourism in East Greenland (the region where most of our tours take place) is small-scale and deeply connected to local communities. The guides, boat operators, guesthouse owners, rely on visitors who come with curiosity and respect. Canceling a trip because of political noise only hurts the people who live there.
And if you are from the US, you need not be concerned about being welcome in Greenland.
Greenlanders are generally kind and welcoming people, and those who show them respect will receive it back.
Additionally it’s important for us to say that we fully support Greenlanders in taking their own decisions about their nation’s future.
We look forward to showing you around in beautiful and remote Greenland, the country that holds such a special place in our hearts.
