Helga's story
Helga was born in Reykjavík, Iceland, but raised largely in the highlands and at her parents’ travel agency headquarters. Her parents are mountain guides and so she was introduced to skiing, hiking and sport climbing from an early age. When the pre-teen years started to hit she developed a rebellious resistance and often claimed she would “never make my kids go hiking” when she grew up. But as often happens she grew up and started dragging her own friends, and even her parents, outside on various adventures.
Today Helga lives in Copenhagen, Denmark after having studied Project Leading from Kaospilot, Aarhus. She frequently visits Iceland where she enjoys hiking, trekking, nordic skiing, alpine skiing and snowboarding, but her absolute favorite is the snack break while on outdoor adventures. Living in flat Denmark is also teaching her to enjoy biking and bike touring, although she’s quite new to that hobby.
Helga has maintained a long connection to Greenland through her dad, Einar, having joined the Icefjord Trek as a teenager. She has been dreaming of visiting again one day – who knows, maybe even one day soon.
Helga worked part time alongside her studies at Arctic Hiking and Kaospilot’s communications department, gaining significant experience within communications, marketing and social media content creation. At Arctic Hiking Helga takes care of all social media content along with digital marketing tasks and occasional blog post writing.
