Itinerary

Day 1 : Trek Begins—Ammeralik Fjord to Itinnera

We kick off our trek tracing the dramatic coastline, soaking up breathtaking sea views and towering cliffs as we head further inland. Our route takes us over the Sulussuutaasaq mountain ridge, where sweeping panoramas of the fjord and untouched wilderness await. With plenty of sunshine expected, take the opportunity to relish the Arctic’s rare warmth—it can be full of surprises!

After conquering the climb, we descend toward Itinnera, a welcoming cabin spot favoured by locals. The scenery shifts to lush greenery as we near a gentle river teeming with Arctic trout. Setting up camp alongside the riverbank, you’ll have the chance to try traditional handfishing—just slip on cotton gloves and see if you can land a catch for dinner, all to the soothing soundtrack of flowing water.

As evening falls behind the mountains, we’ll enjoy a hearty meal together—perhaps featuring your freshly caught fish! It’s the perfect time to share stories and laughs with fellow trekkers, surrounded by the stunning river and mountain landscape. After dinner, you might want to cast a line again or simply unwind as twilight sets in. When night descends, we’ll settle into our tents, immersed in the serenity of the Arctic, ready for tomorrow’s adventures. Trekking time: 7–10 hours.

Day 2 : Retracing Last Leg Itinnera and Wilderness Restaurant

After enjoying a riverside breakfast, we'll pack up camp and retrace yesterday's final stretch to familiar ground. Surrounded by the tranquil sounds of nature and the crisp scent of Arctic air, we'll descend before heading north toward our next stop—Qooqqut, a delightful cluster of cabins known for welcoming visitors. The scenic hike circles the grand Qaarusuk mountain, which stands out with dramatic rock formations and an impressive silhouette. Stay alert for wildlife and soak in sweeping views as we make our way across the landscape.

Once we reach Qooqqut, you'll have time to visit a local restaurant tucked among the cabins. If you're craving a cold beer or a hearty meal, bring your wallet! Enjoy relaxed conversation, great food, and the company of fellow adventurers and locals.

Following this enjoyable break, we'll pitch our tents nearby, embracing the quiet beauty of the surroundings. As the sun sets and golden light bathes the mountains, take a moment to unwind and think back on everything we've discovered today. Trekking Time: 5–6 hours

Day 3 : Trekking from Qooqqut to Sulugssutip Kangerlua

After a comfortable night in Qooqqut, we’ll wake up to crisp Arctic air and enjoy a filling breakfast—because there’s nothing like a good meal and a hot drink to start an adventure! Energized and excited, we’ll pack up our camp and set our sights northeast toward Sulugssutip Kangerlua, heading deeper into the fjord.

Our trek begins as we travel through a beautiful valley framed by high peaks and breathtaking scenery. The gentle climb will get your blood pumping, but rest assured, the views alone are worth it (you might want to save your breath for those memorable moments!). As we journey onward, expect plenty of laughter and maybe a few jokes about the wild choices that brought us all here—with just snacks and trusty water bottles in tow.

After a steady climb over several hours, we’ll reach the pass, where panoramic vistas of the fjord open up before us—a prime spot for a group photo, so strike your best hiking pose! As we make our way back down toward the sea, keep an eye out for local wildlife; you may even have a reindeer wander into your shot!

Once we arrive at Sulugssutip Kangerlua, we’ll set up camp along the shoreline. After another day on the trail, we’ll come together for a warm meal as the sun sets, providing a stunning backdrop for dinner. Share stories of the day’s triumphs and mishaps, laugh about hiking blunders, and perhaps compete for the “Best Snack Hoarder” title.

With satisfied appetites and happy hearts, you’ll tuck into your tent, looking forward to more adventures ahead—and maybe thinking about how to add trekking into everyday life. Trekking time: 5-7 hours

Day 4 : Trekking from Sulugssutip Kangerlua to Ikkarluit

After a restful night, you’ll wake to the gentle sound of water on the shore. Start your day with a wholesome breakfast before setting out for Ikkarluit.

Today’s trail hugs the edge of the fjord, treating you to stunning views of sparkling waters on one side and steep cliffs on the other. The path winds through green valleys and rocky areas, perfect for spotting wildlife like seabirds and maybe even an inquisitive seal. Around midday, we’ll pause at a beautiful overlook to have a packed lunch and take in the scenery.

As you move on, you’ll face both challenging sections and spectacular vistas. Once you arrive in Ikkarluit, you’ll be immersed in the rich cultural heritage found in this region of the fjord. Set up camp nearby and, if you wish, explore the surroundings. In the evening, gather for dinner, share stories from the trek, and watch as the sunset transforms the landscape with vibrant colors. Trekking time: 6-8 hours

Day 5 : Trekking from Ikkarluit to Camp 6 (Sarqaa) near Kapisillit

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before packing up camp and heading out for an engaging trek to Camp 6, close to the picturesque village of Kapisillit. Today's route blends history, local culture, and breathtaking scenery.

Early in the journey, you'll pass by the remains of a reindeer farm that operated in the 1950s and 60s. Your guide will bring this chapter of local history to life with stories about the farm's impact on the community and tales of daily life in the area. Keep watch as you walk—you might be lucky enough to spot some reindeer!

Camp 6 awaits near the village, offering a peaceful campsite with sweeping views of the Kapisillit Fjord. Once settled, take time to unwind and absorb the tranquillity of these remarkable surroundings.

As evening falls, enjoy a delicious dinner with your group while soaking in the quiet beauty of nature. Reflect on the day's experiences and share memories of the reindeer farm with your fellow trekkers.

As the sun dips below the horizon and paints the fjord in warm hues, savour the calm before turning in for a restful sleep—energized for the final two stages of your adventure. Trekking time: 6-8 hours

Day 6 : Salmon River and Inuit Village

Today, we journey to our final campsite, set beside Greenland’s sole salmon-bearing river.

During the trek, your guide will offer fascinating information about the salmon river, delving into its distinctive ecosystem and importance within the local landscape. Keep a lookout for wildlife—you might catch glimpses of birds hunting fish or spot other creatures inhabiting this region.

After an enjoyable hike, we’ll reach Camp 6, perfectly situated along the riverbank. Settle in, unwind, and soak up the soothing sounds of the water—a wonderful setting to begin your last two nights immersed in nature.

Optional: We’ll take a relaxed stroll to Kapisillit, a nearby village. This delightful community offers a chance to engage with local culture and daily life. Wander through the streets, meet welcoming residents, and discover more about their lifestyle in this remote corner of Greenland.

On this day, you have multiple ways to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes at your own pace. Wander leisurely along trails through rolling foothills and impressive mountains that line the fjord, taking in remarkable scenery and watching for local wildlife. If you're interested, you can also visit a nearby sheep farm for an authentic experience of traditional Greenlandic farming life and culture.

As night descends, take time to reflect on your remarkable adventure with fellow hikers. Swap stories, revisit the highlights of the day with laughter, and soak up the tranquil ambiance on your last night at camp.

Your adventure wraps up with an unforgettable journey to the remarkable Kangersuneq Ice fjord. As you follow the trail through varied landscapes, stay alert to the sounds of cracking ice and breathtaking views emerging along the way.
